KOAN is proud to announce that our founder, Marco Cavallini, Yocto Project Ambassador, spoke at the Yocto Project DevDay held in Prague on October 6, 2026.

Talk Abstract: Beyond the Recipe – Architectural Impact of Configuration Choices in Yocto Project

When developing a Yocto Project-based system, individual configuration choices can have a much broader impact than expected. A seemingly simple setting in a recipe, layer configuration, or image definition can affect the overall structure, maintainability, reproducibility, and long-term evolution of the system.

This talk explores how these choices fit into the bigger picture of a well-structured Yocto Project environment, with a particular focus on layer architecture and established best practices.

Through real-world use cases, we examined practical examples of how configuration and integration decisions can influence the final system and the relationships between layers, recipes, images, and machine configurations.

We also showed how existing projects were adapted to improve their structure and compliance with Yocto Project best practices, including cases where recipes and existing layer structures had to be converted or reorganized rather than simply extended.

The goal is to provide practical guidelines for understanding the consequences of configuration choices and for building Yocto Project layers that remain clean, maintainable, reusable, and scalable as the project evolves.
